CNC System for cutting machines

The constant development of electronics causes higher and higher demands of quality of products. To meet the higher demands it is necessary to introduce newer and better machines. In case of gantry type machines it is important to use a roadway and a portal of high rigidity and also all movable parts of a very high quality. However, to get the modern design and solution these have to be equipped with a modern and functional CNC system.

Main window for visualization.

For programming the machine the basic system is ESSI (ASCII code). The ESSI system is in common use in flame cutting machines CNC controlled. The CNC system makes also possible reading other format (except ESSI), e.g. according to DIN standard. It is possible to load programs from diskette of 1.44 MB or by using network external computer by using the installed network interface card.

Creating of MACRO.

The control system is equipped with more than 100 standard MACRO programs (standard shapes). It is possible to increase the number of programs as an option. The MACRO programs can be: - moved,
- multiplied,
- rotated,
- mirrored,
- connected to other MACRO programs,
- added to the existing programs.

The memory for the technological programs enables us to store a huge number of programs. The memory can be sectioned into directories and this makes locating the necessary program easier and faster.

Additional advantages of the CNC system are:
- rotation of a program of an angle given by the operator or calculated by the system,
- by-passing of contours and selected blocks in a program,
- setting the width compensation separately for the left and right side,
- possibility of scaling of the program which is being performed,
- automatic retracing to the program breakage (e.g. after replacing the nozzle),
- continuation of the interrupted program after the emergency stop or power off..

For direct control of the machine a PLC control unit is used. It is a processor module with a built-in math co-processor. This enabled us operating with floating arithmetic point numbers. As a result a good precision of controlling the machine drives is achieved For monitoring the real position there are one or two modules HSC of high speed counters used.

Visualization of cutting process is enabled with the superordinated (superior) control on the basis of operating system Windows NT. Due to the function the operator gets additional functions for the machine:
- starting of parametric programs (macro programs) and inserting the parameters from the keyboard,
- possibility of inserting the technological program (layout) directly from the keyboard.,
- possibility of correcting the technological program received directly from the technological office.(e.g. Taking out the selected workpiece, changing the axis for the layout.),

Visualization of cutting process.

- possibility to check if the layout can be laid onto the sheet,
- graphical presentation of the technological program,
- tracing of torch position on the layout,
- setting the machine parameters,
- displaying the information about the current status of the machine,
- displaying of messages for operator,
- giving information about status of emergency.

Moreover, a superordinated control with visualization enables us to perform the following tasks (e.g. edition, creation, copying the technological programs or MACRO) without stopping the cutting process. As an option it is possible to connect the CAM system PROFIL. This enables us to prepare the technological programs directly on the machine. Previously it was possible only in technological offices using a special software.
The control system for flame cutting machines is a flexible system enabling us to control not only flame cutting machines, but also other machines which needs synchronizing control of two axes - e.g. machines for chamfering, or pad welding of flat parts.
